As you know I’ve been slacking A LOT but my friend O is on a roll so here is another post by her!
Hey guys, if you guys don’t know Erin and I are both brown and today, I will talk to you about what I have observed to be the brown girl favourites!
Every brown girl I have ever met has the lipstick shade called Velvet Teddy by Mac. I swear it looks different on everyone, but it looks amazing. This particular shade is in Mac’s matte formula and it’s honestly hydrating but longwearing at the same time. It is a beige warm nude on me. On my skintone (NW-40), and I love to pair it with the Spice lip liner to make my lips look more even.
Another popular lipstick shade among brown girls is Retro from Mac. It is the perfect fall lipstick colour on me. It’s a warm rosey-brown colour. On my best friend (her foundation shade is CoverFx shade G60), it’s a beautiful nude. It’s in their satin formula which in my opinion has the same longevity as their matte formula, but this formula has a creamier look and feel.
Every brown wedding I have ever been to I have seen girls rock a red lip, no surprise that their favourite red is Mac Ruby Woo. It’s the perfect shade, I feel like it has a bit of a blue undertone and it makes your teeth look whiter. If you don’t like bullet lipstick for dark colours, like me, please try out the Smashbox Always On Liquid Lipstick in the shade Bawse.
Brown people love drama and in our makeup, we love to have all the drama on the eyes! There’s always a winged eyeliner involved and my favourite one to create it is with the Kat Von D ink liner. It’s a bit stiffer and blacker than the tattoo liner from the same brand. It genuinely stays on forever.
Most brown girls I have noticed love to line their eyes with kohl and accentuate their eyes. Something that I feel like stays on the waterline forever is the Marc Jacobs Highliner Matte Gel Eyeliner.
One of the first makeup words I learned was “smokey eyes” and we are obsessed with getting the perfect smokey eye. I think one of the most popular palettes among brown girls is the Naked palette. I personally am not the biggest fan of the urban decay shadows, because I feel like they can be chalky. I would recommend the ABH soft glam palette, which has all the shades to create a thousand different smokey eyes.
My mum wears zero makeup, but I always noticed her powdering her face to turn down the shine. Most brown girls actually do that no matter how much or little makeup they wear. A powder I feel like always tones down the shine is Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder. My mum recently stole my Sephora Collection face powder which gives you a bit of colour and is very buildable and matte.
